Obituary for Richard G. Bleiler

Richard (“Dick”) Bleiler passed away on August 14, 2017, at Chandler Hall in Newtown. Dick was Louise (Dougherty) Bleiler’s beloved husband for 63 years. He was the devoted father of Patricia Mervine (Lance) of Langhorne and Lyn Bleiler Strong of Taos, New Mexico. He was the much-loved “Pop” to grandson Gregg Mervine, his wife Ariadne Costa, and great-grandson Miguel Mervine.

Dick proudly served 4 years in the Navy during the Korean War, then worked as a telephone installer for Bell Telephone in Levittown for 31 years. He moved from Bensalem to Langhorne in 1979, where he ran his own successful business, Bleiler Communications, for 14 years. Upon retiring, Dick and Louise moved to a beautiful home in New Holland, PA, that backed onto an Amish farm, where they enjoyed 20 wonderful years in the country. He became involved with a local model train club, worked out every morning with good friends at the recreation center in Ephrata, and filled the rest of his days with his favorite hobbies: exploring the beauty and history of the Lancaster area, restoring Wheelhorse lawn tractors, reading, and building intricate scale-model buildings of the train stations, barns, mills, and schoolhouses he passed on his drives through the countryside.

At Dick’s request, there will be no funeral service. Dick was an avid reader. If you’d like to do something in Dick’s memory, please support your local library. The family wishes to thank the “angels on earth” at Chandler Hall Hospice who provided comfort and care during Dick’s final days.
