Abington, Pennsylvania
George H. Spangler, a supportive and dedicated man known for his creative ability to fix anything and longtime resident of Abington, passed away on February 21, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on January 18, 1949, George lived a full life marked by compassion and a love for mechanics. A master of all trades, he was affectionately referred to as a handyman, a mechanic, and a lover of motorcycles and airplanes. His frugality and simplicity were his hallmarks, epitomizing the adage, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
George spent his career as an Aircraft Mechanic at Philadelphia International Airport before retiring. His love for mechanics extended beyond his professional life; it was an essential part of who he was. He was also an active member of the National Fellowship of Christian and Jews, regularly attending the Wednesday and Sunday evening services at Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia. He found solace in their mission and messages.
George is survived by his sisters Ellen (David) O'Brien, Edna (Stanley) Ridenour, Maryanna Larson, Sarah (Jim) Colell and his brother Robert Jr. George's love extended to his cat Richid, and was "dad" to Van (LuAnn) Newman, whom he treated as his own children. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Catherine Spangler.
A celebration of George's life will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 6:00 pm at Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia, located at 13500 Philmont Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19116.
In the words of Albert Einstein, "The value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he is able to receive." George exemplified this sentiment through his compassionate nature and dedicated service to others. His legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.
We invite you to share your memories and upload photos of George on the memorial page. Your contributions will serve as a comforting reminder of the impact George had on all our lives.
