Joseph Charles Wood, Jr. Obituary (1943

Joseph Charles Wood Jr., age 77, died peacefully on January 30, 2021 with his daughter and her husband, both by his side after a courageous battle with kidney disease. He died in hospice care at the Alder Center for Caring in Loudoun County, Virginia. Joe was born on September 9, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA to Winnifred and Joseph Charles Wood Sr. He graduated from Father Judge High School. He earned a Master's Degree in Social Work from Temple University. Joe worked for the City of Philadelphia as a Social Worker, and retired after 31 years, at the age of 62. He enjoyed his retirement years with his grandchildren Alexander and Sophia. They spent many summers vacationing together at various beaches including New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia, Florida, the Carolinas and one summer in Puerto Rico! Besides spending time with his family, Joe had a passion for reading and learning. He had an honest and charitable personality. Among his neighbors, he was known as a good friend and will be remembered dearly by his closest friends and surviving family members. Joe is survived by his daughter, his 2 grandchildren, his sister and his sister-in-law. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, June 26th from 11:00-12:30pm at the Lambie Funeral Home located at 8000 Rowland Ave., Phila PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
