Nina V. Orr

We celebrate the life of Nina V. Orr, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Born on June 24, 1935, in Steinman, VA; she was a coal miners’ daughter. Nina excelled in school and graduated as a valedictorian from Haysi High in 1953. Travel and work opportunities led her to Aberdeen MD where she worked for the army as a civilian employee. It’s here that she met the love of her life, Reverend Robert Orr. Theirs was a whirlwind romance; they married on November 13, 1954.

They initially settled in Philadelphia where Bob attended and graduated from Philadelphia College of the Bible. Their ministry travels took them to California, Maine, West Virginia and Philadelphia. Nina was very active in all the churches.

Nina also excelled in both medical and legal transcription. Her skills were sought after as she was both accurate and able to expedite jobs. She loved the challenge of the work and enjoyed learning new skills. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed family gatherings. Her gardens were always beautiful.

She is survived by her children, Eileen (Rick) Slocum, Paul (Michelle) Orr, Susan (Scott) Sabourin, Bill (Paula) Orr, 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and her brother Johnny Texas Barton. Nina was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Ola Barton, her husband, Robert Orr, her son David, and her sisters, Opal, Dixie, and Gracie.

Nina's viewing will be held on Tuesday, 23 Dec 2025 from10:00 am to 11:00 am at Lambie Funeral Home, located at 8000 Rowland Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19136. Her Homegoing Service will follow at 11:00am at the funeral home. Nina will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, 333 West County Line Road, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, with her husband Robert.
