Shirley Faye Hopkins

Shirley Faye Hopkins, age 68, went home to be with Jesus on February 21, 2017. Shirley passed away from complications after surgery in Topeka, Kansas while visiting her family. The death of Shirley has devastating her loved ones left behind.

Shirley was born to Archie Lee Evans and Lola Bell Chapman, in Newton Mississippi on August 25, 1948. Shirley married Rephye Hopkins, in Topeka, Kansas in 1967. Rephye proceeded Shirley in death after a long battle with cancer. Together Shirley and Rephye raised four children: Rephye Christopher, who proceeded her in death, Matthew Jared (Carol), Shannon Kimberlie Hopkins-George (Peter) and Bethany Michelle.

Shirley moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she graduated from Brooklyn College with a both Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Math and Science. Shirley began her teaching career at Sarah J. Hale High School In Brooklyn, NY. Shirley taught Math and Science at the high school level. Later in life Shirley taught at Arts and Technology High School in Long Island City, where she retired after teaching over 20 years. Shirley was also the college adviser, and union representative. Shirley also taught math at the collegiate level.

Shirley is survived by 6 grandchildren: Meagan and Peter George, Rachel, Jessica, Christa, and Sarah Hopkins.

Also mourning her death are her mother, Lola Evans, her sister, Maxine Moore, several aunts, nieces, nephews cousins and dear friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet her family Wednesday, March 1, 2017, from 9:30 to 11:00 am at Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia 13500 Philmont Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19116. Her service will follow at Calvary Chapel. She will be interred at Washington Crossing National Cemetery with her husband Rephye.
